Studio focused on free-to-play multiplayer games exclusively for iOS

New UK start-up JiggeryPokery formed by Zynga UK and Wonderland veterans

Founders of the studio that became Zynga’s closed UK outfit have returned with a new start-up.

JiggeryPokery has announced its formation today, lead by Matthew Wiggins, Alan Harding and Tamsin Nunley.

The studio has been founded to create multiplayer games for iOS, and the team’s first game will be released this autumn.

CEO Wiggins told Develop: "We believe that there is a huge creative and business opportunity to make a range of products that squarely aim at people playing together, both competitively and cooperatively."

Wiggins had formed Wonderland in 2010 and developed the ngmoco-published GodFinger, which became a No.1 iOS title. Zynga bought the studio a year later – but another 12 months after the social games giant closed the outfit when it restructured the majority of its international businesses, with many of them canned before their first Zynga projects were released.

The experience hasn’t deterred the new outfit’s founders.

They have over 40 years combined experience in the industry, all three having worked together previously – first at Lionhead Studios and latterly at Wonderland, where Wiggins (CEO) and Harding (CTO) were part of the founding team and Nunley was the lead animator.

Wiggins added: "We’re going to marry our knowledge of crafting quality gameplay, mobile development and social features with the mechanics of player-vs-player and player-with-player to create exceptional games designed specifically for the iOS platform. We’re huge fans of the iPad and iPhone so, having spent the last four years working on mobile games, we’re excited to build this business around the success of the App Store."
