NPD: Strong March for DS and Xbox

Nintendo’s DS was the best selling console in the US last month, according to the latest report from stats body NPD.

Overall the American physical games market fell four per cent to $1.53bn. Software fell 16 per cent to $735.4m.

Overall hardware sales were up 12 per cent compared to March 2010, with Xbox 360, PS3 and PSP all enjoying year-on-year sales gains.

Of the home consoles Xbox 360 was once again the strongest with Microsoft claiming sales of 433k units – that’s a 28 per cent annual increase.

That’s not to say there isn’t good news for Sony, of course. The platform holder says that PlayStation peripherals have now hit "double-digit" growth for 19 consecutive months.

Pokemon White was the best selling game in March, followed by Pokemon Black. The third best selling title was THQ’s Homefront. EA’s Crysis 2 charted in seventh with Fight Night Champion claiming tenth spot.
