Blockbuster has announced it will effectively shut down in the US.
CNN reports that the chain will cease all domestic operations and shut down approximately 300 shops and distribution centers across the country.
Stores will be closed by January, and the Blockbuster By Mail program will end in mid-December.
Blockbuster’s On Demand streaming service will remain intact. Parent company Dish Network also stated that Blockbuster franchises and licensed stores will stay open—both in the US and internationally.
The news takes place just a few days after Blockbuster entered into administration in the UK, with the company canceling most pre-orders on next-gen consoles as a result.
