Publisher Activision has been issuing copyright strikes on Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare videos that depict either game glitches and/or cheating, a report claims.
Eurogamer says that video network Machinima has emailed partners to warn of the action, saying: "Activision is being particularly vigilant about their Call of Duty videos lately; issuing strikes on videos showing glitches. If you post videos highlighting these glitches, your channel may be liable to receive a copyright strike so please be careful."
Activision itself has claimed that it is trying to protect the game from cheats rather than hide evidence of gameplay problems.
"Occasionally, some folks post videos that promote cheating and unfair exploits. As always, we keep an eye out for these videos – our level of video claims hasn’t changed,” it said.
"We’re excited that so many fans are having fun playing the game and posting videos of their gameplay. We love watching the videos ourselves. We are appreciative of the community’s support in helping to ensure that everyone has the best playing experience possible."
Copyright strikes can potentially be a big blow for YouTubers as they affect a rating known as ‘standing’, the result of which can be blocked access to a number of uploading features – which is a big blow to those whose income depends on it.
Three upheld strikes results in the complete termination of an account and all of its content.
