All League of Legends ranked matches taken offline after huge bug discovered

A game-wide bug has forced Riot to temporarily disable ranked League of Legends matches as it works to fix the issue.

Players initially began to notice something curious with the hero Riven, with the champion able to cast the ‘Recall’ spell – which teleports the player character back to the safety of their home base – instantly.

That was a big problem; the spell normally takes a deliberately long time to pull off, opening up the player to the risk of enemy attacks in return for a potentially faster trip back.

Normally, an issue with a single character would prompt that character only to be taken offline. However, the Recall move is available to every hero – and sure enough, players started to report the bug across the entirety of League’s roster.

In response to the issue, Riot pulled access to ranked matches – games that count towards a player’s worldwide ranking and overall prestige.

Non-ranked matches can still be competed in, but many players are likely to wait it out until ranked games are back online.

We’re currently working to fix a bug with the Recall spell,” said Riot on its service status page at 7:39am this morning.

Unfortunately, this particular issue can’t be mitigated by disabling a specific champion or item so we’ve temporarily disabled Ranked while we develop a solution. We will update you all with our progress in 12 hours.”
