Anonymous Crytek employees now claim Ryse 2 canceled

Anonymous sources close to Crytek have confirmed a sequel to Ryse: Son of Rome has been canceled.

Kotaku has statements (under anonymity) from ten current and former staff members that affirm reports that Crytek is suffering through financial woes – confirming that the firm’s most recent payroll was missed and revealing that what was to be Ryse: Son of Rome 2 has been canned.

Instead of focusing on the core strengths of the company, which would be the [Crytek] engine and innovative PC titles, we simply jumped at every next big thing in the industry,” said a Crytek employee.

Except that each time we did, it was a little too late and we were running after our competitors. There’s no sense of identity at this point and I think that frustrates both employees and fans.”

Another complaint voiced from multiple employees focused on communication issues between Crytek’s studios and executives at Austin, Nottingham and Frankfurt offices among others.

Crytek itself has been silent since it denied the contents of German outlet GameStar’s original piece earlier this week.
