Apple denies payoff for Plants vs Zombies 2 Android delay

Apple has swiftly denied a statement from Electronic Arts’ executive Frank Gibeau that the iOS device-maker paid EA to delay the Android release of Plants vs Zombies 2.

Both Gibeau’s comment and Apple’s denial were reported by Giantbomb, which originally reported on an internal EA presentation today that contained Gibeau’s statement.

Apple gave us a truckload of money to delay the Android version [of Plants vs Zombies 2],” Gibeau said during the presentation.

An Apple spokesperson later told the site Gibeau’s comment is not true” – stating that no money ever exchanged hands.

EA and developer Popcap declined to comment on the matter when it was brought up during another internal meeting. Meanwhile, Polygon reports the Android version has been given a launch window of October.

Plants vs Zombies 2 has racked up nearly 25m downloads on iOS since its launch on Apple’s app store last month.
