Apple launching Planet of the Apps reality TV show, co-produced by Will.I.Am

Tech giant Apple is calling for developers to take part in a new reality TV show, Planet of the Apps.

The show will be following app developers as they try to create the next big thing. It is being produced by musician Will.I.Am, as well as Ben Silverman, of The Office and Ugly Betty fame, and Howard Owens, who has worked on MasterChef, American Gladiators and The Biggest Loser.

According to the site’s website, those who take part will receive mentorship, funding with top venture capitals up to $10m, and marketing and promotion, including featured placement on the App Store.

The show is after participants – those wanting to take part must have an iOS app in development and can enter by sending a short video.

The show will air in late 2016/early 2017.

This isn’t the first time that a reality TV show featuring app and game developers has been attempted. In 2014, there was the disastrous Game_Jam, a reality show focused on indie developers which fell apart on its first day due to considerable problems.
