Apple ups iPhone 6 Plus manufacturing due to stronger than expected demand

The ratio of iPhone 6 Plus to iPhone 6 manufacturing has been shifted in favour of the former, a report claims.

Digitimes says that Apple has enjoyed greater than expected demand for its super-sized iPhone and has a result shifted some of the resource previously dedicated to the iPhone 6 to its bigger brother.

The retail channel is unlikely to feel any immediate changes since it normally will take a while for adjustments on the production side to start affecting the retail,” a source said.

But most component suppliers’ current inventories are not sufficient for extra iPhone 6 Plus orders, and device manufacturers also do not have sufficient production lines for related assembly. Therefore, the retail channel may need to wait a while before seeing a significant increase in iPhone 6 Plus supply.”

As a result, iPhone 6 shipments for H2 are expected to be in the region of 3-4m units lower than previously expected.

Both units are scheduled to launch in China on October 17th.
