Cataclysm breaks new records

The popularity of Blizzard’s MMO World of Warcraft shows no signs of abating with news that the latest expansion for the title has broken another record in the PC market.

The developer has revealed that WoW: Cataclysm sold an amazing 4.7m units worldwide in its first month of release – a new record for a PC game.

The news follows the confirmation last month that the game sold 3.3m copies in its first 24 hours on global release, making it the fastest selling PC game ever ahead of previous record holder WoW: Wrath of the Lich King.

"We created thousands of new quests, introduced new lands to explore and extensively revamped the game world for World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, making it our biggest and most ambitious expansion yet," Blizzard CEO and co-founder Mike Morhaime stated.

"We’ve been floored by the community’s response so far, and we’d like to thank them for their continued passion and support for World of Warcraft, and for helping Cataclysm reach this incredible milestone."
