Digital success pays dividends for Konami

Japanese publisher Konami has reported a 77.3 per cent increase in net income to 17,046m for the nine months ending December 31st 2011.

Net revenues for the period grew 3.3 per cent to 194,522m while operating income climbed 86 per cent to 30,921m.

Digital entertainment revenues in isolation grew 1.6 per cent to 99,464m and operating income increased by 87.4 per cent to 24,289.

It was the success of social gaming that drove the numbers. Konami’s social games now enjoy a user base in excess of 15m. The most successful title was Dragon Collection, which now has over 5m members.

In the traditional games front, Metal Gear Solid celebrated a strong year while there was also success from Konami’s Yu-Gi-Oh trading card business.
