The follow-up to last year’s hit RPG Dragon Age will tear its way onto Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on March 11th next year.
EA senior VP and BioWare Group GM Dr. Ray Muzyka made the announcement during the publisher’s press conference at Gamescom 2010 today.
The sequel was officially confirmed by BioWare in July. It features a brand new storyline that plays out over the course of ten years, a reworked graphics engine and a dynamic fighting system.
With Dragon Age 2, we are building on the outstanding RPG fundamentals the original delivered while taking the franchise in a new direction,” said BioWare executive producer Mark Darrah.
Faster, more responsive combat will allow players to think like a general, but fight like a Spartan. We are giving the franchise’s gameplay a shot of adrenaline.”
Players will take on the role of Hawke in Dragon Age 2, a refugee who survives the destruction of his homeland and becomes the Champion of Kirkwall.
Last month BioWare told MCV that Dragon Age is the most successful game the studio has ever produced – ahead of popular sci-fi shooter series Mass Effect.
EA will publish Dragon Age 2 when it arrives in Q1 2011. The US version arrives on March 8th – three days ahead of the UK release.
