EA pulls original Peggle in New Zealand as F2P version is introduced

A free-to-play version of PopCap puzzler Peggle has arrived on the iOS App Store – at the expense of the existing paid version.

Pocket Gamer reports that while the new version is broadly the same as the original release in gameplay terms, it does change a few elements – such as the introduction of a Candy Crush Saga style map and some additional power ups.

More contentious will likely be the introduction of purchasable power-ups and a pay-or-wait energy system.

All of which would be fine were the free version offered alongside the paid-for original. However, it seems that EA probably suspects it will generate better revenues form this new model.

The changes have so far only come into effect in the New Zealand app store and it’s not known when a wider rollout is planned.
