Elder Scrolls Online switches to subscription-free model

Elder Scrolls Online’s mandatory subscription fee has at last been dropped, Bethesda has announced.

Bethesda’s MMO can now be picked up with just a single purchase and no ongoing monthly fee required. To counter the subscription’s removal, the developer will add an in-game shop offering a variety of purchasing options.

One of the options is a 30, 90, or 180-day ESO Plus membership, which provides regular deposits of in-game currency, assorted boosters and access to DLC while membership is active. Experience boosts and other unspecified services and content” will also be made available individually via the in-game store.

The Elder Scrolls Online is available now on PC, and is set to launch on PS4 and Xbox One this June.
