FIFA 13 named as AbleGamers’ accessible mainstream game of the year

Charity the AbleGamers Foundation has named EA’s FIFA 13 as its most accessible mainstream game of the year.

AbleGamers was established in 2004 and works towards helping those disabilities of quality-of-life issues use gaming as a way in which to improve their lives.

Accessibility features in the title include remappable keys, customisable colour options, high contrast menus and visual cues for audio input. The high levels of customisation also allow players to adjust the game’s speed as well as tweak individual skills to either inhibit the computer or boost the player.

It’s also the first high-end mainstream sports game that allows gamers to control everything with a trackball or mouse.

AbleGamers congratulates Electronic Arts on their fourth and most impressive win,” the site reads. On behalf of the more than 33m disabled gamers, we thank EA for accepting the game accessibility guidelines of Includification with open arms and utilizing the disability community’s suggestions on how to improve game accessibility.”

Also credited was 2K Games’ XCOM: Enemy Unknown as well as Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and Bethesda’s Dishonored.

Forza Horizons, meanwhile, was criticised for removing many of the most crucial accessibility features that won its predecessor the AbleGamers Accessible Game of the Year Award just two years ago”.
