GameStick launching in June exclusively at GAME

UK retailer GAME has snapped up the exclusive rights to sell PlayJam’s tiny Android TV console GameStick when it launches in June.

Pre-orders for the micro-games system have begun today, and can be purchased from the website for 79.99. The console will be available for pre-order in-store from June.

The news follows the announcement that Madfinger and Hutch Games will be bringing Shadowgun and Smash Cops to the console as launch titles, available for free.

Development kits meanwhile are expected to have begun shipping to developers this week, with pre-production prototypes containing different components for de-bugging and loading apps as well as extra features specifically for game development.

We’re really excited to be the only UK retailer to offer this product to the gaming community,” said GAME category director Charlotte Knight.

We are constantly evolving our offer of gaming content, providing gamers with the options to game their way: the portability of the GameStick will make this even easier – gamers will be able to take their console anywhere and literally set up camp in front of any TV! We are confident that our gaming community will be eager to play with such a great console."

PlayJam CEO Jasper Smith added: We are delighted to be partnering with GAME to bring GameStick to the UK market. It’s an affordable gaming console and we expect demand to be strong in the lead up to the in-store launch later this year. This is the first of many such partnerships that we will be securing over the coming weeks and we are thrilled that GAME is the first.”

Just yesterday it was confirmed that GAME will also be a UK stockist of another console that started life as a Kickstarter project in the last year: the Ouya.
