Google Play update allows cross-platform multiplayer with iOS

Owners of Android and iOS devices are now able to compete against one another online.

Engadget reports that amongst the new features coming to Android being announced at GDC this week is the ability for developers to implement cross-platform multiplayer between Android and iOS devices via an update to the Unity plug-in.

The feature will of course be dependent on developers coding it in to each individual title.

Also on the way is what Google calls Game Gifts” – this allows users to send in-game items to one another. The number of game categories in the Google Play store is also being increased to 18.

These new features are included as part of Google Play’s now-released 4.3 update.
