Grand Theft Auto V Games On Demand XBL release breaks records

The digital version of Grand Theft Auto V available on Xbox Live’s Games on Demand has broken records.

Take-Two says that the game became both the highest grossing day one and week one release ever on Xbox Live following its release on the platform October 18th.

The game had already broken similar records on PSN, where it was released digitally concurrently with the physical global release on September 17th.

It was revealed last night that Take-Two has already shipped 29m copies of the game, which has in six weeks sold more units than Grand Theft Auto IV has managed in its entire lifetime.

Following comments from an analyst yesterday who slammed the publisher for underperforming digitally, the company has also pointed out that its digital sales grew 85 per cent last year driven primarily by full game downloads and add-on content, along with smaller contributions from virtual goods and mobile offerings”.
