H1Z1 heading to Steam Early Access in January

Sony Online Entertainment’s upcoming free-to-play zombie survival game H1Z1 will launch as a Steam Early Access title next month.

In a post on Reddit, SOE president John Smedley confirmed the game’s public pre-release will arrive January 15th for Windows. He also touched on expectations for the Early Access edition.

"What you’ll be playing January 15th is a really fun game, but it’s early,” Smedley said. Our goal is to have you help us finish it and have it be a game we can build a large community in over time.”

"Is it going to be a finished game? Absolutely not… The goal here is to let you in early and help us mold it into a game you want to be a part of for quite a long time."

Smedley added that the first public build of the game will begin with "roughly” 64k square kilometers and see significant growth right away” from that starting point.

The Early Access version on Steam will also offer two premium packages that grant access to additional game modes servers. One will be priced at $19.99, though the cost of the second wasn’t mentioned.

"The difference between the two will be things like access to some of our different game mode servers," Smedley explained. "Which you can get access to by purchasing tickets or earning them as well, and other specifics we’ll be outlining soon."

H1Z1’s full release is planned for PC and PS4 platforms.
