HMV joins the British Retail Consortium

HMV Group is to join the British Retail Consortium (BRC). The announcement will be made at the BRC’s Annual Retail Industry Dinner tonight.

British Retail Consortium director general Stephen Robertson said: "At a time when retailers are scrutinising all their costs, HMV’s decision to join us is clear evidence of the value of BRC membership to retailers of all types.

HMV join a wide range of BRC members, large and small, food and non-food, town centre, out-of-town and online. By supporting and using our influence we are all helping to create a business environment which helps retailers and customers alike."

Simon Fox, CEO of HMV Group said: "It is important that our industry unites behind a strong, single voice. HMV Group is pleased to be joining the BRC as it has an excellent track record and the contacts to convey the realities of retail to politicians at every level."

Other new members of the BRC this year have included Aldi, Thorntons, Wyevale and N.Brown.

The British Retail Consortium claims it represents retailers responsible for 80 per cent of UK retail spending.

It represents the entire range of retailing – large multiples and department stores, small independents, food and non-food, store-based and online.
