Initial details on the World eSports Association leak

Initial details on the World eSports Association have been leaked ahead of an official announcement on Friday.

Late yesterday an image, which has since been deleted but can be seen here, popped up on Imgur that showed a poster for the World eSports Association featuring the logos of many large eSports organisations and ESL. After some digging Redditors found a business registration that shed a bit more light on the WESA, and earlier today a new Twitter account confirmed that this will be a body where teams and players have a significant voice,” and not an exclusive league as some people assumed.

The business registration that was discovered was in German, although a quick online translation reveals the organisation’s aim is: Conveying, tuning and performing eSports internationally and establishing a global and structured platform for eSports, its players and teams by establishing, promoting and operating the ESL League / leagues and other eSports events that are supported by the association, both online and offline.” It also goes on to mention a potential group marketing partnership and other potential collaborations.

The leaked poster features the logos of ESL, Fnatic, Ninjas in Pyjamas, mousesports, G2 eSports, Natus Vincere, Virtus Pro, Team EnVyUs and FaZe Clan. Interestingly top teams such as Astralis and Team Dignitas are missing, as are any North American or Asian teams.

Earlier today a new Twitter account known as @WESAofficial released a pair of tweets giving a brief explanation and promising more official details on Friday. The announcement will most likely be made as part of the ESL Pro League finals taking place in London this weekend.
