All hope of a Vita version of BioShock appears to be over.
2K and Sony couldn’t put a deal together when I last checked,” BioShock creator Ken Levine said on Twitter. They seemed way more optimistic about this back in 2011.
Wish I could do it myself, but lawyers and all that. I still love my Vita.”
Interestingly the game was being pitched as a Final Fantasy Tactics style thing set in pre-fall Rapture” according to Levine, who added: Something that would work well on the vita and not be a compromise in any way. Also, as some know, I’m a turn based whore.”
BioShock Vita was announced all the way back at E3 2011 but by late 2012 complications were already beginning to arise, with Levine saying by early 2013 that the saga was out of his hands”, although he was still hopeful in August of last year.
All of which occurred before Irrational suffered its premature and unexpected death, of course.
Sony said in May of this year that triple-A game development on Vita is not economically viable.
