Mario Kart 8 heading to Wii U in May

Mario Kart 8 will arrive for Wii U this May, according to Nintendo.

In a company briefing, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata stated that the next offering in the Mario Kart franchise will see release during the May 2014 window. Iwata cut his salary in half this week, in wake of Nintendo’s recent dip in profits.

The first Wii U entry in the series introduces a new anti-gravity mechanic, along with at least one new character, and both new and classic-inspired tracks.

A Nintendo rep later confirmed toPolygonthat May will represent the global launch window for the title, though release dates for specific regions are still unknown.
