Microsoft confirms permanent UK Xbox One price cut, new 1TB console

Xbox One’s 299 price is now permanent in the UK.

The 500GB Xbox One was cut to 299 in April, although Microsoft at the time described it as a retail led promotion.

The platform holder has also unveiled a new 349 1TB version of its console. The hardware has a new matte finish and includes a copy of Halo 5: Guardians. Some unspecified regions will also get a copy of The Master Chief Collection thrown in – we’re not yet sure if this includes the UK.

UPDATE: The UK version of the 1TB bundle will not include either of the Halo games, Microsoft has told MCV. However, retailers such as GAME appear to be bundling alternative software with the machine.

Also in the box is Microsoft’s redesigned joypad, complete with 3.5mm headphone jack and improved audio quality and volume when listening via a headset. The bumpers have also been tweaked for more consistent performance along the full length of the button.

The controller will be available in a standalone version, too, both in standard black (later this summer)and a new Xbox One Special Edition Covert Forces version on June 16th.

Microsoft says the new machine is to start shipping right away.

In addition, confirmed for release this autumn is a Wireless Adapter to allow for the use of Xbox One controllers on PC. This will be available on its own for $24.99 or bundled with a pad for $79.95.

Just this morning Michael Pachter predicted that the platform holders would not cut the price of their consoles this E3. Whoops.

UPDATE: GAME will have the 1TB machine on sale from tomorrow (June 10th). It will include copies of The Elder Scrolls Online and Ori and the Blind Forest.
