Mike Bithell unveils Daydream VR game EarthShape

Mike Bithell has revealed his next project, EarthShape, which is a Daydream View VR game featuring Sue Perkins from The Great British Bake Off.

EarthShape initially started out as a small side project for Bithell when working on Volume Koda. Made up of Unity store assets he was playing around with VR, however when he learnt of Google’s Daydream ViewVR headset he transformed it into something more substantial.

It’s a game about the millennia spanning mission of the first astronaut to leave Earth and terraform the universe,” said Bithell in a post announcing EarthShape. A ‘StarSeeker’ joined by a plucky lander. Together, they’ll travel the universe planting flowers and kicking off life through a fun new gameplay mechanic. In VR. At a great framerate. On a cellphone. It’ll come later this year.”

Bithell has managed to bring on some serious talent to help make the game. Russell Shaw, who composed the music for the Fable series, is on board for the soundtrack while animator Tim Borrelli, who has worked on Red Faction and Saints Row, is also part of the team.

Of course one of the biggest announcements is that Sue Perkins, from The Great British Bake Off, is lending her voice to the game.
