At long last, Mojang’s Minecraft is set to launch on Nintendo’s Wii U.
The title is launching on the hardware on December 17th – just in time for the Christmas holidays – and comes with multiple add-on packs. Minecraft: Wii U Edition features off-screen play so uses can play with the Wii U GamePad alone.
This edition of the hit game comes with six skin packs – Battle and Beasts 1 and 2, Natural Texture, City Texture, Fantasy Texture and Festive Mash-Up. In addition, 16 other add-on packs are available to purchase via Nintendo’s eShop, including Doctor Who, Star Wars, Mass Effect and Skyrim skins.
Minecraft: Wii U Edition was rumoured in November when PEGI rated the title. That page was hastily removed.
Minecraft debuted on PC and has since come to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Vita, iOS and Android. It’s also coming to Oculus Rift.
In July, MCV spoke to Mojang’s COO Vu Bui about what the developer’s plans were for the game following the studio’s purchase by Microsoft.
