NBA player Jonas Jerebko buys Renegades

Jonas Jerebko, a NBA player for the Boston Celtics, has purchased the Renegades eSports organisation.

Renegades is perhaps best known for having two owners banned from the LCS. Last year owner Chris Badawi was banned from the LCS, and sold up to Christopher MonteCristo” Mykles. Then earlier this year Badawi was involved with the team again, breaking the ruling, resulting in the organisation and MonteCristo being banned from the LCS, with Badawi’s ban being extended to a lifetime. This meant the organistion’s League of Legends teams were sold off, leaving just a CS:GO team signed to Renegades.

With little activity over the last few months a sale was rumoured and has now been confirmed with Celtics player Jonas Jerebko taking the helm. Jerebko is still playing in the NBA with the Celtics, but is committed to his new eSports venture. Of course he is not the first NBA player to get involved with eSports, as Rick Fox has a very successful organisation in the form of Echo Fox and Shaquille O’Neal is an investor in NRG.

Already the brand has been changed, with the Renegades now being known as the Detroit Renegades. They have also picked up a Call of Duty team in the form of the former Dream Team roster, who will be at CoD XP this week.
