New 3DS sales hit 230k in Japan in first week

It looks like Nintendo’s latest handheld has got off to a strong start in its traditional heartland.

Famitsu data posted on Neogaf says that the New 3DS sold 230,000 units in the week ending October 12th. Of that 172,332 sales were of the larger New 3DS LL model and 61,151 for the standard New 3DS.

Also worth noting is the fact that the larger device was released in two SKUs – one standalone and the other bundled with Monster Hunter 4G.

By comparison the 3DS XL sold 235,974 units in its first week.

MCV will have the official Famitsu numbers later today.

The New 3DS hasn’t yet got a UK release date beyond a non-specific 2015.
