New Steam beta update adds framerate counter

Valve has added an FPS counter to Steam’s overlay, allowing users to check the framerate of their games without having to use third-party software such as FRAPS.

Polygon reports the counter is accessible right away as part of the current Steam client beta, much to the rejoicing of account holders wondering if Valve would ever implement the oft-requested feature.

Along with the framerate counter, the new beta update introduces several fixes and adjustments to Steam’s broadcasting features, as well as other fixes and optimizations.

Steam set a new record for concurrent users over the weekend, with more than 8.5m PC, Mac and Linux gamers logged in at one point this past Sunday.
