Next Xbox to kill pre-owned, requires always on net connection – report

Could we about to see the death of the pre-owned software market?

Edge claims to have word that the next Xbox will require an always-on internet connection and will block the use of pre-owned games.

The site says that a source with first hand experience” of the console itself adds that games will still be buyable physically, being supplied on 50GB Blu-ray discs. It is understood that disc games will use an activation code, much like we see in the PC sector.

It also agrees with recent rumours regarding the machine’s innards. Specifically, it will house AMD eight-core x64 1.6GHz CPU, a D3D11.x 800MHz graphics solution and 8GB of DDR3 RAM. The HDD capacity has yet to be decided, but expect it to be big.

The same sources also add that the newly designed PS4 is proving a hit with developers, who are finding its architecture easy to work with and more flexible than Microsoft’s machine. The New Xbox is also said to use an operating system that is more oppressive than Sony’s equivalent”.
