Not all Microsoft games will support Xbox Play Anywhere

Microsoft’s claim that all ofits future first-party line-up would be part of its Xbox Play Anywhere appears to not be entirely correct.

The platform holderquietly edited its statement on the matter, now saying that every game shown on-stage at E3 will be part of the scheme, where before it said all first-party releases were to be included.

However Xbox boss Phil Spencer has said on Twitter (below) in response to a story from PC Gamer that Microsoft’s intent is still to bring all of its IP to both Windows 10 and Xbox One.

Also, the reason for this change seems to be in relation to games that would not work well on all devices – a concern raised by Cliff Harris when asked by MCV about Microsoft’s Universal Windows Platform earlier this year.

Xbox Play Anywhere was announced on-stage during Microsoft’s E3 press briefing, and means that games within the scheme will be available on both Xbox and PC. A digital purchase of games in the programme meant access to the game on both platforms, similar to PlayStation’s Cross Buy.

Microsoft named the first 12 Xbox Play Anywhere titles last month, with big hitters like Crackdown 3, Gears of War 4, Forza Horizon 3 and Scalebound coming to the platform.
