Oculus Rift gets UK retail release date… and a price increase

VR pioneer Oculus Rift will become available from a range of UK retailers from September 20th.

However, while the unit was previously available for 500 directly from the Oculus website, that price has now been increased to 549. We’d presume that Brexit is the villain, here. At launch the Rift’s $599 price translated to 410. The plummeting value of sterling means today that’s actually worth 463.

VR rival the HTC Vive has also upped its price as a result of the pound’s market struggles.

Oculus Rift will be available to buy from Amazon, GAME, Curry’s PC World, John Lewis and Harrods. In store demo experiences will also be rolling out across the country.

September 20th will also mark the device’s rollout across Europe and Canada.
