Open-world dinosaur game Ark: Survival Evolved announced for PS4 and Xbox One

Indie developer Studio Wildcard has announced an open-world dinosaur survival game for next-gen consoles and PC.

Called Ark: Survival Evolved, the game is built using Unreal Engine 4 and focuses around multiplayer co-op and a persistent ecosystem. Crafting, hunting, shelter building, tech developing and harvesting seem very much the order of the day.

60 dinosaurs are confirmed for the game, although player-formed tribes are perhaps just as likely to pose a threat as the raptors and T-Rex’s.

Furthermore, Wildcard has promised VR support on both PS4 and Steam using Project Morpheus and Oculus Rift respectively.

Ark taps into the scale, size, and wildly unpredictable nature of the dinosaur eras like no other game before it, then pairs it with the wonders of exploration and technological discovery,” Wildcard’s co-founder and co-creative director Jesse Rapczak said. We’re particularly excited to bring Ark to consoles, as open-world survival gameplay is typically found solely in PC games.”

Ark: Survival Evolved will launch on Steam Early Access on June 2nd and then on PS4 and Xbox One in early 2016.
