Paranormal Activity VR game coming to Valve Vive, Oculus Rift and Project Morpheus next year

One of the most popular horror movie franchises of all time is getting its own virtual reality spin-off video game.

Paranormal Activity VR is currently in development by VRWerx, a division of Beast Media Group set up to focus solely on virtual reality experiences.

Details on the game are currently scarce, but it has already been confirmed for release on Valve and HTC’s Vive, as well as the Oculus Rift, on PC.

It will also be coming to PS4, working with Sony’s upcoming Project Morpheus headset.

It won’t be solely limited to VR platforms, however; Xbox One and mobile were also slated to receive the title, although how this version will differ from its VR counterparts is unclear.

The core gameplay of Paranormal Activity VR is yet to be revealed, but it’s said to be a full-bodied release in comparison to VR marketing campaigns for other horror series such as Insidious.

The first Paranormal Activity film, released in 2007, holds the record for the most profitable film ever made, generating over $193 million worldwide on a budget of just $15,000.

A second film was released in 2010, leading to annual releases since.

The sixth instalment in the series, Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, is set for release this October.

Paranormal Activity is the perfect property for VRWerx,” said Russell Naftal, co-managing partner at Beast Media Group.

This franchise represents a huge audience that loves visceral, unbridled terror, which we intend to intensify through the incredible immersion only virtual reality enables.

Our goal is for theParanormal Activity VRvideo game to not only be the scariest game you’ve ever played, but the scariest experience you’ve ever had.”

Paranormal Activity VR is currently outlined for release in 2016.
