PES 2018 beats Metroid and Uncharted to Japanese No.1

Konami’s PES 2018 beat a number of new releases to the top of the Japanese charts last week, including Nintendo’s Metroid: Samus Returns and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, according to the latest figures from Famitsu.

The PS4 version of the game shifted over 69,000 units in its first week on sale, while the PS3 version debuted at No.6 with another 12,000 copies sold, putting its combined total at 82,000. That’s a growth of 6.5 per cent on PES 2017’s Week One figures, although Famitsu notes this may be due to Japan’s recent qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. If true, it will be interesting to see how FIFA 18 performs when we receive this week’s chart data.

Meanwhile, Splatoon 2 held fast once again at No.2 even though sales dropped by 37 per cent week-on-week. Despite this, it was still enough to beat Metroid: Samus Returns, which entered the charts at No.3 with over 28,000 copies. This is roughly on par with the Wii’s Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and the DS’s Metroid Prime Hunters, which sold 34,000 and 33,000 copies in Week One respectively.

The only other new entry last week was Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, which debuted at No.4 after shifting just over 21,000 units. Destiny 2 sales, meanwhile, dropped by 70 per cent week-on-week, falling from No.1 to No.5 last week.

On the hardware front, the Nintendo Switch continues to be the best-selling console with another 38,000 units sold, with the PS4 in second with another 21,000 units shifted.
