Plants vs Zombies 2 to launch on iOS, will be free-to-play

PopCap has officially revealed Plants vs Zombies 2: It’s About Time, adding that it will be on display at E3 ahead of its exclusive launch on iOS next month.

Unlike its predecessor, PvZ 2 will be free-to-play; and while it will carry microtransactions for in-game items, PopCap states that players won’t have to spend anything to earn them and experience every aspect the title has to offer.

The game itself will take players on a time travelling adventure, spanning across several historical locales including levels themed around pirates, the Wild West, and ancient Egypt. It also thankfully sees the return of the lovably insane item peddler, Crazy Dave.

We’re confident that players will see the love and attention we’ve put into this game,” senior producer Allen Murray said.

We’ve created wild new ways to experience the plants and zombies you know and love as well as packing the game with tons of completely new content, and we’re still hard at work coming up with even more cool stuff that will keep Plants vs. Zombies 2 fresh and evolving in the months and years following launch.”

Plants vs Zombies 2: It’s About time is set for a worldwide launch July 18th on iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch devices.
