Project Morpheus VR headset is ‘85% complete’

Sony reckons that its own entry into the virtual reality market is nearing completion.

The Wall Street Journal quotes Sony Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida as saying Project Morpheus is 85 per cent complete, although there’s still no hint as to when the device will be launched and how much it will cost.

The latter may be less than you think, though, as many of the components” used in the device are also used in smartphones, suggesting that would help keep the price down”.

This could mean the headset is comparable in nature to Samsung’s Gear VR, which is produced in conjunction with Oculus but based around the use of the company’s upcoming Galaxy Note 4 handset.

VR’s big hitter Oculus Rift, meanwhile, has entered a new stage of development with its latest Crescent Bay dev build. Oculus Rift is also without a release date or price.
