PS4 sales rise 64% in Japan as NieR: Automata debuts at No.1

PS4 sales in Japan shot up 64 per cent last week, according to the latest data from Famitsu, thanks to a number of new PS4 titles in the Japanese Top Ten. Chief among them was Nier: Automata, which debuted at the top of the charts after shifting 182,762 units.

It’s a strong start for Square Enix and PlatinumGames’ action RPG, but Bandai Namco’s Super Robot Taisen V wasn’t far behind, claiming second and third place respectively on PS4 and Vita. Together, the title sold 180,155 units.

Nioh, meanwhile, dropped two places to No.4 after a 37 per cent decline in sales week-on-week, and the week before’s No.1, Ubisoft’s For Honor, fell to No.9, selling just 11,754 units. That’s a drop of 72 per cent week-on-week.

Other new entries include Koei Tecmo’s Harukanaru Toki no Naka de 3 Ultimate, which debuted at No.5, and Nippon Ichi Software’s The Witch and the Hundred Knights 2, which entered the charts at No.6.

With so many new chart entries, Pokmon Sun and Moon were pushed down four places to No. 7 last week, where they collectively sold 13,673 units – a fall of 12 per cent week-on-week. Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3 Professional and Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS, meanwhile, both experienced a 21 per cent dip in sales week-on-week, falling to No.8 and No.10 respectively.
