Report: Don Mattrick out at Xbox

Xbox president Don Mattrick is about to leave Microsoft, according to internet reports.

All Things Digital and rumours circulation on social network site Twitter, say that Mattrick will announce his departure today with Zynga or EA likely destinations.

Mattrick has had a difficult time at Microsoft in recent weeks following controversy around Xbox One’s business policies. But his departure was planned long before these issues, sources say.

Zynga has struggled since it went public and is in need of leadership, while EA’s CEO John Riccitiello stepped down early in the year.

Mattrick is a former EA executive, and was president of Worldwide Studios at EA before he retired in 2006.

Since joining Xbox in 2007, Mattrick has turned the division from a loss-making ‘vanity project’ into a sustained and profitable business for Microsoft.
