Sonic creator urges fans to play Wii version of Rodea the Sky Soldier

Rodea the Sky Soldier comes out on Wii U this Friday, but its maker has warned against playing it.

Instead, Sonic creator Yuji Naka has advised fans to instead play the Wii version. Which was never released! Fortunately, NIS America is bundling the Wii version of the game with the Wii U title.

Rodea the Sky Soldier was originally developed for Nintendo’s first motion-controlled console. However, despite being complete its original publisher Kadokawa Shoten ultimately decided against its release, coming as it would right at the end of the Wii’s lifecycle.

The Wii U game isn’t compatible with the original Wiimote, however, instead opting for a touchscreen set-up, much like the 3DS release. Fortunately Wii U owners will be able to boot up the Wii game thanks to the newer machine’s emulation capabilities.

As well as being designed by Sonic’s Naka, Rodea the Sky Soldier also boasts a score from Lumines and Ninety Nine Nights composer Takayuki Nakamura. The game received luke-warm reviews upon its North American release earlier this year.
