Sony discontinuing PS Now on all platforms save PS4 and PC

Sony is discontinuing its PlayStation Now streaming service on all platforms except the PS4 and PC. Starting from August 15th 2017, users will no longer be able to access the service on their PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, PlayStation TV, or any Sony Bravia TV, Sony Blu-ray player, or Samsung TV.

Sony will also prevent users from signing up to the service through the affected devices starting on March 15th. For those with a current subscription on these devices, Sony says users will be able to sign up again on either PS4 or PC, and all their PS Now cloud game saves will be there waiting for them.

"After thoughtful consideration, we decided to shift our focus and resources to PS4 and Windows PC to further develop and improve the user experience on these two devices," SIEE’s junior product manager Ben Thorpe wrote on the EU PlayStation Blog.

"This move puts us in the best position to grow the service even further. If you use any of the affected devices, we want to give our heartfelt thanks for your support, and we hope you’ll continue with us."

Sony also reminds users that those who do not wish to continue their subscription still need to disable the auto-renewal function on their account before July 15th, so it ends before August 15th.

Select Sony Bravia TVs from 2016 will be ending support for the service even earlier on May 15th, so affected users will need to cancel their subscription before April 15th.

PlayStation Now is Sony’s on-demand streaming service that allows users to play classic PlayStation 3 games over the internet. Originally announced at CES 2014, PS Now eventually made its way to the UK in March 2015 after an extensive beta period in the US.

The service costs 12.99 a month in the UK, and currently includes iconic titles such as all three Uncharted games, Crystal Dynamic’s 2013 Tomb Raider, Red Dead Redemption, Bioshock, The Last of Us and Batman Arkham City.
