South Park creators attempt to block Stick of Truth auction as THQ bidding war begins

South Park Studios is attempting to stop the sale of the publishing rights for its new game, The Stick of Truth.

The auction for THQ’s assets began yesterday, with rumours suggesting Sega is after Dawn of War and Companies of Heroes developer Relic – which is the biggest creative rival to Sega’s Creative Assembly team. Meanwhile, reports suggest Koch Media is eyeing Saints Row developer Volition.

Ubisoft and EA were previously reported to be interested in THQ’s assets.

But whether The Stick of Truth – the impressive-looking new South Park game – is amongst the titles is not clear. In a US filing in Delaware, South Park Studios says it should be allowed to buy the game rights themselves before seeking a new publisher.

THQ assets are being sold off after the firm’s creditors won their fight to block the sale of the whole company to Clearwater Capital. They were unhappy with the pre-pack agreement because it prevented other parties entering the bidding process.
