Square Enix sues Deus Ex hackers

Square Enix has filed a lawsuit against the people believed to be behind a recent Deus Ex leak.

A preview build of the upcoming Deus Ex: Human Revolution was accessed and uploaded onto torrent sites in late May. The code contained early sections of the game.

The publisher is now taking fifteen Italian nationals to court over the leak, according to Kotaku. Court filings show that the group is accused of accessing the servers where the demo was hosted using login information of GMC, an Italian games magazine.

GMC itself has not been implicated, as evidence suggests the server breach came from an IP address that is unconnected with either the publication or the reviewer who was originally given access to the preview build.

Square Enix is claiming damages "in excess of $5,000" and that the theft constitutes copyright infringement.
