Stone Cold Steve Austin revealed as WWE 2K16 cover star

Hell yeah – the Texas Rattlesnake himself will grace the cover of this year’s WWE game.

One of the biggest wrestlers of the infamous ‘Attitude Era’, Stone Cold Steve Austin replaces relative newcomer and WWE 2K15 box star John Cena, whose "You can’t see me" catchprase takes on new meaning in his absence.

Long-time Austin rival and self-proclaimed ‘people’s champion’Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, now as well-known for his acting roles in films such as the Fast and the Furious, was placed front-of-box the year before.

Despite last wrestling in 2003, Austin remains one of the most popular wrestlers to emerge from the WWE, hosting a regular wrestling podcast and several of the WWE’s spin-off reality shows, and returning to the ring on occasion over the last 12 years.

A 21-time championship belt holder, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2009.

Austin will also be available as a playable character, as he was in previous entries.

I’ve had the privilege of working with 2K to support the WWE 2K franchise, and now I’m absolutely honored to serve as theWWE 2K16cover superstar,” said Stone Cold, in words that were definitely his own.

No disrespect to the previous and extremely deserving WWE 2K cover superstars – Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and John Cena – but it’s about time the franchise raised some hell with yours truly on the cover.

"I look forward to injecting a dose of ‘Texas Rattlesnake’ into this year’s game and overall campaign.”

WWE 2K16 is due out on UK shores on October 30th. The game is slated for release on PS4, PS3, Xbox One and Xbox 360.
