SuperData predicts big things for Destiny 2 on PC

The decision to bring the Destiny series to PC for the first time will result in a big boost in sales for Activision and Bungie.

That’s according to SuperData, which predicts that the PC version of Destiny 2 will sell 3m units in its first three months on sale. It also believes that between 3-5m digital units of the game will be sold across PC and console in the same period.

Part of this success will come not only from the shooter’s September release date, but also from the fact that it will be sold on Battle.net – it will be first non-Blizzard game to do so, incidentally.

The prediction comes from SuperData’s new Forecaster system, which analyses the historical performance of hundreds of titles based on a handful of factors including publisher, genre, sales for previous titles, monthly active users and reviews.

The Forecaster will be ongoing, too, with monthly updates for metrics including pre-orders, trailer announcements, betas and demos.

As the buzz around specific titles continues to grow within the digital gaming industry as a whole, the Forecaster offers a unique starting point for those thinking about sales scenarios” SuperData’s VP of product and business development Sam Barberie said.

By pairing this with the SuperData Arcade, the digital gaming industry can now have a clearer picture of what drives sales success and how their future releases could gain an advantage.”

The PS4 and Xbox One versions of Destiny 2 will be released on September 8th, although the PC SKU does not yet have a concrete release date.

PC features include 4k and 21:9 support, an uncapped framerate, mouse and keyboard support, text chat and adjustable FOV. Also present will be all the usual Battle.net social features.

Destiny 2 itself will offer a lot of new features, not least of which is the Guided Games system which allows solo players to team up with squads for trials and raids. It’s matchmaking, basically. The Crucible has had its player count lowered to 4v4, too.
