The first SteamVR Vive game is… Job Simulator

Some play games to escape from the daily grind, but this doesn’t appear to be the market being targeted by the first game confirmed for SteamVR.

Owlchemy Labs has confirmed that it is working on a game called Job Simulator. The title is set in 2050 at a time when robots have assumed responsibility for most of the roles formally assumed by mankind. This has left human’s with VR as their only lingering connection to the dignity of work.

The path that lead us to this moment is quite insane, and we’re still in the process of unpacking it all,” the studio said. Ever since the Oculus Rift Kickstarter, we’ve been fervent believers in the potential of VR and ecstatic about the forthcoming widespread consumer adoption of such a transformative new medium.

It’s thrilling to play a part in the upcoming explosion of consumer VR and we’re proud to add another amazing opportunity to the list by being one of only a few select developers building content for some of the most incredible VR hardware in the world.”

Owlchemy isn’t the only studio signed on to produce games for the hardware, either. Kotaku reports that other confirmed partners include Bossa Studios (Surgeon Simulator), Dovetail Games (Train Simulator) as well as Skillman & Hackett, Steel Wool Games, Cloudhead Games and Vertigo Games.
