There will be no Disney Infinity 4.0 this year

Disney has said that it will not release a new standalone version of its toys-to-life series Disney Infinity in 2016.

Instead, the company has vowed to support its most recent release, Disney Infinity 3.0, with a range of new content based on new and existing Disney properties. It’s the first time the series has skipped an annual new entry.

Disney says that while previous new entries in the series were needed as the company continued to tune the assorted mechanics found within the game, they are now happy with their current offer and would like instead to build on it.

The fact that gamers will no longer need to pay out for a new version of the title would certainly have been an incentive, too, with both Disney Infinity and Skylanders now having to concentrate on fending off the success of 2015 newcomer LEGO Dimensions.

The first new content, arriving around now, ties in with new Disney movie Zootopia.

This is followed by Marvel Battlegrounds later this month, which along with a new story also features some new characters including Ant-Man, Black Panther, Vision and the former Vita-exclusive Black Suited Spider-Man.

Later in the year, Baloo from the original animated Jungle Book is aon the way on April 8th, tying in with the release of the live-action film on April 15th.

Further support can likely be expected for Disney’s assorted 2016 release slate which includes Star Wars: Rogue One, Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange and Alice Through the Looking Glass.
