TT Games acquires Golf Clash studio Playdemic

Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment subsidiary TT Games has acquired UK mobile games company Playdemic to help bring new kinds of LEGO titles to smartphones.

The Manchester-based studio has previously been responsible for mobile titles such as Golf Clash and Village Life, with the former becoming a top grossing title in the US. Since its founding in 2010, Playdemic has made over $50m in revenue and its entire portfolio of apps has been downloaded over 50m times. Its current titles won’t be going away either, as these will remain supported by TT Games and Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment after the acquisition has gone through.

We couldn’t be happier to bring on board such a talented and capable team,” said Tom Stone, managing director at TT Games.

Playdemic brings a unique set of skills to complement our existing studios, and a tremendous track record on mobile. They’re a perfect fit – and will enable us to take advantage of exciting new opportunities to build new kinds of socially-connected LEGO games.”

Playdemic CEO Paul Gouge added: This is a wonderful opportunity for our company. We built Playdemic to create innovative, meaningful mobile games with high production values, which deliver a uniquely social, incredibly fun and shared experience for our players – and cannot imagine a better context in which to continue that work.

"We’re all huge fans of the LEGO Group and the LEGO games made over the years by TT Games, and we’re tremendously proud to be able to make a new contribution to that legacy.”

It’s currently unknown what kind of LEGO games Playdemic will be making under the new partnership, but TT Games have plenty of titles coming out over the next few months, including LEGO Worlds and LEGO City Undercover. LEGO Worlds is due out on March 7th for PS4, Xbox One and PC, with a Switch version coming later this year, while LEGO City Undercover is coming to all platforms this Spring.
