Valve to unveil Linux-based Steam PC this year – report

Valve appears to have made plans to reveal its custom PC-console this year.

According to a report on German site Golem (via PC Gamer), Valve engineer Ben Krasnow spoke on the upcoming hardware at the EHSM 2012 conference in Berlin, how it runs on Linux, and how a full reveal is coming at either GDC in March or E3 in June.

To catch everyone up on how the situation has developed so far: rumours that the company was working on a ‘Steam Box’ console started cropping up last March.

Valve quickly denied the reports, but later admitted it had indeed decided to jump into the hardware market.Valve boss Gabe Newell went on to confirm plans for a Steam PC designed for living rooms just this past month.

Beyond Krasnow’s reported statements, Valve has yet to provide any official comment on the matter.
