Versus Evil pulls Afro Samurai 2, cancels parts 2 and 3

Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of the Kuma is no longer available to buy from PSN, Xbox Live or Steam.

Developer Versus Evil has announced that the title has been pulled from sale. It has also cancelled the previously planned second and third instalments. Refunds are available to those who have purchased the first volume – even on PSN.

The game was a failure. We could not do, in good conscience, Volume 2 and Volume 3,” the studio’s general manager Steve Escalante told CGM. So we’ve begun the process, it’s been a long process to figure it out because Sony has never really had to do this in this way, but we’re returning all the money. So across the board we’re putting out an apology saying ‘sorry about this’.

We’re Versus Evil; a company perspective, from a partnership perspective and now we have to do it from a consumer perspective. So we pulled it down, because we didn’t want to exacerbate it anymore and then we’re refunding the money.”

Escalante added that it wasn’t that the game was broken or buggy, people just didn’t like it,” although several commentators have complained of bugs, as well as several other technical and production issues.

The game hit PS4 and Steam in September and then Xbox One a month later. Its soundtrack was produced by Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA.
